Matt and I spent the weekend at my undergraduate alma mater, Dickinson Faculty, for my 15 yr (!) reunion!
Wow, time flies. It was nice to see associates and the gorgeous inexperienced campus once more! (Final time I used to be again I believe was my 10 yr reunion, so it had been awhile!)
Matt and I left DC on Saturday morning, leaving Riese with my mother and father, and headed straight to the Dickinson Faculty Farm for a enjoyable farm to desk lunch that was a part of the alumni weekend festivities.
The Dickinson Faculty farm didn’t exist once I was at school there – I’m undecided when it was began, however it has since grown to an 80-acre licensed natural farm. Very cool!
Meals from the farm goes a bunch of various locations: to the school eating corridor, to a CSA, to a weekly farmers’ market on the town, and to a neighborhood meals financial institution. College students can attend lessons and in addition take part in work-study applications on the farm.
We arrived slightly early (who’re we?!) and gave ourselves a tour of the farm whereas ready for the lunch festivities to start.
I assumed this vertical herb field system they’d arrange was good – should use much less water since it may well trickle all the way down to the decrease vegetation!
As for lunch, it was superior: contemporary salad (full with farm-made inexperienced French dressing – I attempted to purchase some however sadly by the point I did it had bought out!) and wood-fired seasonal produce pizzas.
We lucked out with nice climate – it was good within the shade!
Went again for extra pizza. 🙂 And the regionally brewed ginger beer and root beer had been actually good, too!
Hanging out with Matt and my pal Turner:
After catching up with associates on the farm, we headed to campus, with a fast pit cease to drop baggage and vehicles at our lodge and to seize some caffeine. 🙂
There are a ton of cool new espresso outlets on the town (Carlisle) now!
We spent the remainder of the day mingling with fellow alumni on the primary quad, the place there was an official class of 2004 social happening.
We discovered our pal Kris, in addition to a bunch of different associates that I didn’t handle to get photographs with as a result of I used to be too busy stress-free and having fun with!
After the beer ingesting enjoyable on the quad, a giant group of us headed to dinner at Market Cross, a pub close by that we used to frequent again within the day for pint evening. Their meals isn’t essentially the most superb ever however the nostalgia issue is powerful. 🙂
We had been capable of snag a desk outdoors which was superior as a result of it was good out, and I had the bison burger and fries, which hit the spot.
After Market Cross, we headed to a cool new spot on the town – Molly Pitcher Brewing Co.
They’ve an ideal outside space the place we snagged a giant desk subsequent to some fellow alumni and continued the festivities.
We ended the night on the Gingerbread Man, which is the primary bar on the town the place everybody used to return within the day. We acquired there round 10:30 simply as issues had been ramping up, and Matt and I made it till about midnight earlier than deciding to name it. Apparently the brand new huge factor on the bar is that they have jello photographs – clearly we needed to partake. 😉
On Sunday morning Matt and I couldn’t actually sleep in (fail – our physique clocks are so used to early mornings now), so we determined a jog could be useful to sweat issues out a bit.
I introduced a banana and an RX nut butter packet from house for us to share pre-run, since I figured we’d need to do that and would wish some gasoline!
After which we set out for an informal jaunt round campus and the encircling neighborhoods.
We had been stunned to search out it was fairly cool out, and it felt good to get the blood pumping a bit!
We most likely jogged about 2 or 2.5 miles which felt excellent, after which we headed, sweaty, straight to Fay’s Nation Kitchen to fulfill a bunch of associates for breakfast.
I went for the bacon, cheddar, and veggie omelette with house fries and a few fruit – hit the spot.
After breakfast and getting cleaned up and checked out of the lodge, we met again up with Kris and some others for some wandering round campus – we wished to go see our previous dorm and a few of the current modifications made to campus.
Plus, Matt and I wished to hit the bookstore to purchase one thing cute for Riese. 🙂
Earlier than leaving city, we grabbed a lightweight lunch again at Molly Pitcher Brewing Co.
Everybody was craving greens – salads throughout!
We arrived again in DC round 4, excited to see our baby. 🙂
Such a enjoyable journey – it glided by manner too rapidly! Till subsequent time, Dickinson… thanks for the good weekend and the beautiful climate!
Do you attend your faculty reunions? I went to my highschool 10 yr reunion, and have executed the 10 and 15 years at Dickinson! I missed the 5 yr since I used to be at a marriage, however a TON of classmates went to that one. This yr attendance was undoubtedly slightly lighter!
